Sparkling Shamrock Mimosa: Our Newest Green Mocktail for St. Pat's Day

This is a really fun mocktail to make for St. Patrick’s Day festivities. It uses only three ingredients which makes it really easy to pull together for guests, or just for yourself at home. Adding gold shimmer powder is a nice extra touch for entertaining and making it special!

How do you make a green mocktail?

The green colour comes from Blue Curacao. Orange (from the OJ) and blue make green!

If you want to use real curacao liquere, it will make this a ‘low’ ABV cocktail, but if you want to keep it as an alcohol-free mocktail then pick up a bottle of Monin Blue Curacao syrup. You only need about 1 oz of it to turn a drink green. If you’re wondering what to do with a whole bottle of it, you can save it and make Blue Lagoon style mocktails with coconut. It’s a good investment because you can have so much fun with blue syrup! And it still has the bitter orange flavour that curacao liquere is famous for, but obviously lacks the bite of alcohol.

What type of non-alcoholic sparkling wine should I use?

Non-alcoholic sparkling wine is so good now - it’s not like the grape juice of old. It tastes almost like the real thing with acidity, structure and fun soft bubbles. Our list of the top sparkling wines is here, but you don’t have to pick one of those. Use any brand or type you have on hand. Obviously, the better the sparkling wine, the better it will taste. A lower sugar, dry, premium non-alcoholic sparkling wine will taste better in this mocktail because there is so much added sugar from the juice and the syrup.

Where can I find gold shimmer powder?

Baking stores usually carry a variety of shimmer powders, but this one is from Amazon.

Can I serve this to my kids?

This can easily be tweaked to be totally ‘alcohol-free’ (and less of a boozy dupe) by replacing the non-alcoholic sparkling wine with an orange seltzer or Italian soda, to make it kid friendly. You could also pick up some sparkling grape juice for more of a grown-up taste. Ollipop makes a sparkling grape soda which could be fun too!
