Best Non-Alcoholic Tequilas 2025
/Your Guide to the Best Non-Alcoholic Tequila Alternatives for Margaritas, Palomas, and More
I missed margaritas so much that it was like a miracle when someone invented the first non-alcoholic tequila (I think it was Ritual!!). As someone who’s personally taste-tested and reviewed dozens of non-alcoholic spirits since then, I know that finding a zero-proof tequila that actually captures the flavor and bite of the real thing can be a challenge. This curated list features the best non-alcoholic tequilas I found from bold agave-inspired spirits perfect for margaritas to refreshing mixers ideal for alcohol-free palomas. Each recommendation is based on real-world use, ingredient quality, and how well it performs in a classic tequila mocktail!
Quick Comparison: Best Non-Alcoholic Tequilas of 2025
The most fun non-alcoholic spirit
Margaritas are the most popular drink in the U.S. and thankfully, there are a lot of amazing non-alcoholic tequila brands that want to help transform your alcohol-free margarita into something that truly tastes like the real thing.
Tequila has such a unique and deep flavour, that the non alcoholic substitute for tequila in margarita recipes has to have the burn and the smoke to complement the salty lime.
The list of options has grown longer this year, with both Blanco and Reposado styles - and you can have so much fun trying them all out and figuring out which ones you like best!

What characteristics does the best non-alcoholic tequila for margaritas need?
Non alcoholic tequila flavouring is complex and each brand has their own unique spin on it.
Agave flavour is the trademark of tequila. It’s what sets this spirit apart from all the rest, so it’s important that your n/a version has a recognizable agave flavour.
Smokiness is also key. In the process of making tequila, the heart of an agave is harvested from the plant and roasted in underground ovens over hot rocks. Roasting the heart in this manner gives the spirit that deep, smoky flavor that makes mezcal so distinctive. Non-alcoholic tequilas need to have a discernible smoky palette to be a true dupe.
Heat is also key, but hard to get right. The heat in tequila usually comes from alcohol, so replicating the gentle but very specific burn of the real thing is tough.
The brands listed below have developed a nuanced style and taste of their own, so it’s fun to try all of them in a variety of cocktails to truly experience this best-in-class group.
My tequila tip: One of my biggest tips is to use 1.5 or 2x the amount required in the recipe, as non-alcoholic spirits are still going to be weaker than ones with alcohol. This way you get the full yummy flavour!!
Best Alcohol-Free Tequila for 2025
1. ALMAVE BLANCO Non-Alcoholic Blue Agave Spirit
Best For: A perfect classic margarita
*U.S. Only
Tasting Notes: The Almave non-alcoholic tequila is hands down one of the cleanest and brighest n/a tequilas in the category. It’s sharp and has a tiny bit of heat, and the smokiness and agave notes are perfect. Almave is the first non-alcoholic tequila brand to work with the traditional blue weber agave plant, and is made in Jalisco Mexico. This is a great n/a option for a classic scratch margarita or even a spicy marg would be great!
Additional option: The Almave Ambar is their reposado style tequila alternative and actually it’s my favourite of the two because it’s sensational in an alcohol-free cocktail with tropical flavours like watermelon, mango or passionfruit!
2. MONDAY MEZCAL
Best For: Traditional mezcal-style lovers
Tasting Notes:
This non-alcoholic mezcal was one of the first zero proof tequilas I truly fell in love with. It drinks like a true dupe for the real thing. It’s a great non-alcoholic mezcal, with a clean agave taste profile and loaded with heat, making it a perfect option for a non-alcoholic margarita with a kick. I use this in a lot of my margaritas!
3. ISH Non-Alcoholic Tequila - Mexican Agave Spirit
Best For: GREAT VALUE for price! Palomas and citrus-based margarita mocktails
Tasting Notes:
This Danish brand has created a great non-alcoholic agave spirit, with a surprising depth of flavour and a massive spicy kick, just like a smoky tequila. It pairs really well with grapefruit soda for an elevated and tasty non-alcoholic Paloma (non-spicy). Available through the Zero Proof!

4. FREE SPIRITS SPIRIT OF TEQUILA
Best For: Fans of Reposado Style Tequila
Tasting Notes:
This non-alcoholic tequila is a Reposado style zero proof spirit, with heat and flavour matched in a truly unique and elevated way. They add B12 to the liquid to add some beneficial nutrients to the mix. You can almost drink it on the rocks it’s that interesting. It’s our favourite option for a spicy non-alcoholic Paloma because the savoury flavour and medium heat profile balances nicely with the grapefruit and jalapeno.
You can find it in your local Total Wine & More, Safeway, HyVee, or Binny's. Or get it online from Amazon (U.S. only).

5. SPIRITLESS JALISCO 55
Best for: Flavoured & Tropical Margaritas
Tasting Notes:
Spiritless Jalisco 55 non-alcoholic tequila is so unique. It’s not like a regular blanco tequila, but has some interesting grassy and smoky notes that pairs really well with tropical fruit. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea in a classic margarita recipe, but it works so well in tropical flavoured margarita mocktails. Here’s our Passionfruit Margarita using Jalisco non-alcoholic tequila, a great pairing! Available through The Zero Proof.

6. Trejos Non-Alcoholic Tequila
Best for: Sipping on the rocks, frozen drinks
*U.S. Only
Tasting Notes:
This delicious non-alcoholic tequila is a little bit grassy, and has a really unique flavour. It’s nothing like the other options in the space, and because it’s founded by Danny Trejos, it feels like it’s more authentic to Mexico than something more mass market might. We used this in a frozen peach margarita mocktail and it was chef’s kiss. Check out the Frozen Peach Margarita Mocktail recipe here.
