St. Regis Sauvignon Blanc Review: A good white for turkey

People generally reach for red wines during the holidays and winter, but sometimes a white wine comes around that seems to match the season and the new St. Regis Selections premium sauvignon blanc is one of these. It’s a great pairing with turkey and stuffing!

St. Regis Dealcoholized Wines is a Canadian wine brand and has been around almost as long as dealcoholizing wine has been around. You’ve seen them on the shelf in the U.S. at Total Wine and in Canada in the non-alcoholic drinks section at grocery stores. This is the first time in many years they’ve released new still wines, and it’s very clear how much work and research has gone into formulating the new St. Regis Selections. We recently reviewed the Pinot Noir style, so click here if you haven’t read it yet.

The new Sauvignon Blanc is the second of two St. Regis Selections to be released this year so let’s break down this reasonably priced, accessible white that you will want to add to your cart this holiday season.

What is Sauvignon Blanc?

Before we dive into the details of this non-alcoholic sauv blanc, let's take a moment to appreciate the Sauvignon Blanc varietal itself. Originating from the sun-kissed vineyards of France's Loire Valley, this style has become a global favorite, celebrated for its crisp acidity, vibrant fruit flavors, and herbaceous undertones. It's a grape variety that embodies freshness and vitality, making it a perfect candidate for crafting non-alcoholic renditions that capture the essence of the original wine.

Here is a detailed review of the St. Regis Dealcoholized Sauvignon Blanc.

Aroma

A lovely aroma of lychee, passionfruit and a subtle hint of grassiness. Very reminiscent of a warmer climate sauvignon blanc.

Taste

This is a very light and juicy non-alcoholic white, with notes of tropical fruit, grass, brioche and a hint of crisp citrus. It is on the sweeter side, but it’s very pleasant and refreshing. The sugar level is 8g/6oz glass so a little bit higher than some people will like, but you can’t please everyone. Grape must have been added back to the dealcoholized wine to give it texture and flavour and this is where the added sugars come in. On a second tasting, there were some fun sweet tart hints of jolly rancher candy which was interesting.

If you didn’t like Giesen Sauvignon Blanc or Saint Viviana Sauvignon Blanc then this option is for you. Some non-alcoholic sauvignon blancs are quite acidic, which is always so lovely, but a common complaint is that they are too sour. Not this one! Acidity is present but not overwhelming.

Mouthfeel & Experience

It’s got a medium-minus body, with a soft and smooth texture. The almost silky smoothness was a surprise and not unpleasant.

What to pair with St. Regis Sauvignon Blanc

Candied nuts are an excellent sip and snack combination with this non-alcoholic white. Anything that is dry roasted will also be a great pairing, like oven roasted chicken or even turkey. It’s got enough acidity to stand up to the dryness of the meat, and will add so much flavour to every bite.

Overall

The sweetness and tart but light acidity is similar in some ways to a dessert wine, but without the syrupy texture and sweetness. It’s so fun to drink, and does deliver some of a sauvignon blanc experience with its own personality.
