Skip the Blender But Not the Fun Mouth Party!
Do you love a good tropical drink but hate dragging out the blender? My no-blend virgin Pina Colada mocktail is the perfect solution. Whether you’re cutting back on alcohol, want a kid-friendly option, or just prefer something light and refreshing, this non-alcoholic Pina Colada with coconut and pineapple delivers summer-in-a-glass without the mess.
Why you’ll love this
Most virgin Pina Coladas are overly sweet, often just pineapple juice and coconut cream dumped into a glass. This one’s different because it’s shaken, not blended, which gives you a velvety texture and real flavor depth, plus, it uses a quality non-alcoholic rum alternative.
The balance of tart lime, tropical pineapple, creamy coconut, and that distinct sugarcane note from the zero-proof rum creates a mocktail that doesn’t compromise.
Using Non Alcoholic Rum in Cocktails & Mocktails
This non alcoholic Pina Colada uses Lyre’s Spirits Co White Cane Style non alcoholic rum. If you’ve never tried non alcoholic rum before, this is a well-crafted replica of the real thing. It has all the sugar cane flavours of traditional white rum but without the alcohol.
One thing to note when building a drink with lighter non alcoholic spirits like this one is you have be heavy handed on the pour and be careful not to overpower it with other flavours. Non alcoholic pineapple drinks can be too sweet without proper portioning. Doubling up the usual measure of spirit will help the zero proof rum product shine through. Coconut and pineapple are both strong flavours, so this non alcoholic replica recipe uses a different balance to the ingredients than a boozy cocktail.
The Coconut Cream Secret — Don’t Confuse It with Coconut Milk
When I first started making mocktails, I had no idea what the difference was between coconut cream and coconut milk. Now I’ve learned it’s a common mistakes in Pina Colada recipes!
Coconut cream is not the same as coconut milk. Coconut milk is thinner and more watery, usually used in soups or curries. Coconut cream, on the other hand, is much thicker and richer, with a higher fat content. It’s what gives a Pina Colada that creamy, luxurious mouthfeel.
📌 Tip: Look for canned coconut cream, not cream of coconut (which is sweetened) and definitely not coconut milk from a carton!
How to Work With Canned Coconut Cream (And Why It Separates)
Canned coconut cream can be a bit finicky. When it sits on the shelf, it often separates into two layers with solid coconut fat on top and clear coconut water on the bottom. This is totally normal so don’t panic!
Before using it in your mocktail, you have two options:
Shake the can (if it hasn’t solidified fully)
OR
Scoop the contents into a bowl and whisk it until fully smooth
PRO TIP: I tried this and it actually works like a charm!!!! If your kitchen is cold and the coconut fat is rock-hard, place the sealed can in warm (not hot) water for 5–10 minutes to soften it before whisking.

This drink is all about making it easy so you can hit the pool deck faster!
Step-by-Step Instructions
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add the non-alcoholic rum, pineapple juice, coconut cream, and lime juice.
Shake vigorously for 20–25 seconds—longer than usual. The coconut cream needs forceful shaking to emulsify properly and create that signature frothy top.
Strain into a highball or Collins glass filled with crushed or pebble ice.
Garnish and sip with a tropical playlist.
If you’re batch-making for a crowd, scale up the ingredients and shake in two rounds.
