Fall Mocktail: Apple Butter Cinnamon Non-Alcoholic Cocktail

One of our top pick for non-alcoholic rum elevates these fall apple cider mocktails into a tart and spicy treat

Apple and cinnamon are to fall as snow is to winter, and anyone that disagrees should stop reading because this recipe has oodles of both!

Apple butter is available year-round but in the fall it’s at its peak perfection. You can make it yourself with fresh-from-the-farm apples, or buy it pre-made from any type of farm-fresh market in your area. Where we live, it’s plentiful! We’re obsessed with it. It was only a matter of time before we used it in a mocktail.

Why apple butter in a drink though? It’s a perfect companion to non-alcoholic rum, especially HP Spiced Cane from Montreal. Plus, fall is the time for cozy and creamy mocktails, and since you can’t (shouldn’t) add dairy to drinks with apple cider without it curdling, adding apple butter is a great alternative to make it thick and rich.

Using HP non-alcoholic rum in cocktails and mocktails

Non-alcoholic rum is plentiful, and there are lots of brands that make zero proof rum options. Each one has their own taste and strength of ‘heat’ they have. We really like using HP Spiced Cane because it stands up in a cocktail really well.

Tip: when using non-alcoholic spirits in recipes, you often need more of the spirit and less of the acid which could be citrus juice or in this case apple cider.

Adding cinnamon is as simple as making a rich cinnamon syrup that you can also use on pancakes!

How to make cinnamon simple syrup for mocktails

Stir a 1:1 ratio of brown sugar and water in a saucepan and bring it to a simmer on medium-heat. Add in 4-5 cinnamon sticks and continue to cook for another minute or two. Remove from the heat, cover it and let it infuse for up to 30 minutes. Don’t use it in your cocktail until it’s cool!
