Dry July Day 1 - Life is sweet, or is it?

Dry July!

Welcome to Dry July! Day 1 is easy … and life feels pretty sweet. The rest of the week, maybe not so much, so use this day to relax and get an easy win for yourself!

What To Drink When You’re Not Drinking?

Life is Sweet Non Alcoholic Drink

Our drink of the day is called Life is Sweet which is just bitters and soda, a refreshing way to hydrate but still have something elevated in your hand. This was one of the first non alcoholic drinks editor Sarah Kate tried when she decided to quit drinking.

The instructions are simple:

  • add some ice and soda water to a glass

  • dash in some bitters and stir

  • garnish if you want

A note about bitters: it’s complicated, but they do have alcohol in them. Read our primer on bitters here.

If you have Angostura bitters on hand in your baking cupboard, use that! But, we suggest using All The Bitters alcohol free Peychauds (New Orleans) bitters to help your system truly detox. This brand of non alcoholic bitters is making waves and is a great option if you want to be completely alcohol-free but stil have lots of flavour in your drink. It’s participation that matters.

Ice, soda and a full dropper of bitters and you’re good to go. Life is sweet!

Dry July Success Tip: Tell Someone  OR Tell Your Journal

Telling someone about your plans helps keep you accountable, but not mandatory if that’s uncomfortable for you. A pillar of Some Good Clean Fun and rethinking drinking is mindset, and that means recognizing how we think and what language we use in our own heads. New research has proven that journaling is a real success factor when it comes to reducing or quitting drinking, so use this as a starting point. Journaling isn’t for everyone so if you feel weird writing down your feelings, here are some options for you:

  • doodle and draw

  • write a short mission statement for yourself

  • write your future self in the present

  • write a short gratitude list

Tip: the dollar store has fun and cheap notebooks, if you feel like you need a fresh start!
