Sometimes a non-alcoholic wine brand can get one product really wrong and another product hits a home run. A previous tasting of the Joyus non-alcoholic rose wine left a lot to be desired in the pour, but there are four styles of wine in the Joyus portfolio so a lot of room for more exploration of this Seattle-based non-alcoholic brand.
Warm summer weather always means bridal showers, bachelorette celebrations and weddings, so it’s a perfect time to take a look at the Joyus non-alcoholic sparkling white as a bubbly option for non-drinkers.
As some background, Joyus is produced in Seattle, WA and is the first non-alcoholic winery in the area. They are also the only woman-owned non-alcoholic winery in the U.S., which is why we are determined to revisit their products and help support this female entrepreneur.
There is no varietal information on the bottle but it’s not a stretch to assume it's made from chardonnay, as the Washington state wine region is known for its quality cool-climate chardonnays.
On the nose there’s a nice light tropical aroma mixed with stone fruit.
On the palette there are delicious notes of apricot and stone fruit with a hint of tropical fruit, possibly pineapple - but thankfully not too overblown like the Luminara Chardonnay is.
There’s a nice tart acidity balanced with a gentle sweetness, with a pop of nice creamy bubbles. It tastes almost like the wine has been left on the lees, which is a winemaking technique used in higher-end sparkling wine production. A great experience to taste this hint of creaminess in a non-alcoholic bubbly.
This sparkling wine is truly a treat, and it’s one of those bottles that could fool someone who isn't expecting a non-alcoholic option. It’s structured and acidic enough to pass for a real sparkling wine, especially with its hefty mouthfeel and exquisite bubbles.
Pop open this bottle for any type of celebration, as it’s a perfect match with finger foods like hors d'oeuvres, sharp cheese and smoky meats, or as an accompaniment to a light flan or similar dessert.
Joyus non-alcoholic sparkling wine ($40) and the rest of the Joyus products are available in Canada through The Sobr Market. In the U.S., Joyus is available directly through drinkjoyus.com.
Cheers!
