What’s in your current rotation?
/This is a question that many sneakerheads ask each other when referring to the current shoes that they are cycling through at any given time. Am I admitting that I love to wear brightly coloured shoes and have more than a couple of pairs that I wear at any given time? Yes. But this is a question that NA beer enthusiasts have recently been asking me too. What NA beers are you drinking these days?
As someone who decided to stop drinking alcohol in July 2022, I found myself reaching for the same 1 - 2 NA beer brands that I found in my grocery store. I used to love trying new beers and I was really missing that sense of discovery - tasting new amazing products. I started scouring the internet, ordering brands that I had never heard of before, and quickly this turned into a new obsession.
Fast forward to now, and I can honestly say that I’ve tried over 100 different NA products from beer to wine to cocktails to…you get the idea, I can’t help myself! I love NA beer and trying new things. I wanted to highlight some of my current favourites and share what’s been stocked regularly in my fridge these days.
Le Bockale Perseverance Non-Alcoholic Amber Ale
The first thing you'll notice about this beer is its color. It's a deep amber, almost like a red wine. Also reminiscent of red wine is the aroma, with notes of sweet fruit and spice.
The flavour profile is similar to that of an American pale ale: it has a prominent hop presence with notes of grapefruit and pine needles on top of caramel maltiness. This beer is just as tasty as it is beautiful. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT drink out of the can so you can get the beer in all its glory.
Bellwoods Brewery Non-Alcoholic Jelly King Dry-Hopped Sour
The Jelly King is a dry-hopped sour beer, which means it's made with lactobacillus bacteria that gives it a tart and slightly sour taste. It's also infused with the flavours of grapefruit, passion fruit and lemon zest. If you're not familiar with these flavours, they can be described as tangy or citrusy. Bellwoods is known for making amazing Jelly King seasonal beers and I really hope that they continue this with their NA options. Shout out to Bellwoods for making such a fun and delicious beer to enjoy, especially as it starts to get warmer!
Nonny Non-Alcoholic Czech Pilsner
I only have one child, so he is my favourite. But can I really say that about a single beer when there are so many amazing options out there? Every time I drink a Nonny Pilsner, I really do say it. I love this beer. This refreshing Czech style Pilsner is made with Saaz hops. It is extremely light, crisp and has a bit of a bitter finish. I’ve been drinking Nonny’s beers all winter and can’t wait for the warmer weather to crack a cold pilsner when I’m barbecuing on my patio.
Thanks for taking the time to read my recent favourites! I am always on the hunt for new and fun NA beer options to try out, so send me your favourites at @free.bar.co on socials. Cheers!
