Spicy Peach Sangria with Non-Alcoholic Wine
/Peaches and hot honey are trending right now, so it inspired me to make this spicy non-alcoholic white sangria with St. Regis wines. This is a make-ahead batch recipe, so don’t try to make this five minutes before your guests come over! But you CAN find St. Regis wines quickly in your neighbourhood - it’s an accessible and wallet-friendly brand and bonus, Forbes magazine rated their non-alcoholic chardonnay highly. It’s a perfect option for an alcohol-free summer sangria!
Secret peach ingredient: Spicy peach syrup
This isn’t your ordinary sangria recipe, as it uses a spicy peach syrup to add flavour. Since a traditional sangria often has either brandy or orange liquere in it, I wanted to make something to mimic the heat and depth of those things.
That’s where the idea for a peach syrup came from. It combines the two yummiest ingredients into one flavour punch.
Making spicy peach syrup
It’s really quite easy to make this ahead of time, and you can double or triple the recipe to have some to pour over something like feta toast.
Canned vs. fresh peaches?
I used canned peaches for this because I wanted the peachy syrup from the can to help thicken it and because they are already softened, it makes cooking time faster and easier. You can absolutely use fresh peaches but use more water and more sugar.
Ingredients
1 can of peach slices in syrup
1/4 cup sweetener (I used Splenda)
1 cup liquid from peach can
1 cup water
1 tbsp red pepper flakes (scant!)
Preparation
Bring everything to a boil in a saucepan and then reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Occasionally use a fork to mash the peaches up.
Take off the heat and let it cool before straining into a jar. This is messy and sticky, as you will need a fine mesh sieve to push down the peaches to get all the syrup out.
This makes enough for one batch of peach sangria.
Making the non-alcoholic sangria
1. Muddle your citrus
To give a citrus boost, first slice up some lemon and oranges into quarters. Place in the bottom of the pitcher and top with 1 tbsp sweetener. Muddle well with a wooden spoon or muddler to release the citrus oils from the skins. Let this infuse for an hour or two, covered at room temperature.
2. Adding syrup and fruit
Once the citrus mix is ready, pour in the whole 1 cup batch of spicy peach syrup. Layer in fresh fruit - peach, strawberry, lemon and a tiny bit of orange - don’t over do it with the orange!
3. Pour in the non-alcoholic wine
The next natural step if this was regular wine would be to add ice, but with non-alcoholic wine you don’t want to water it down and you also want to give some time for the wine to infuse with the fruit flavours and spice. So pour in a whole bottle of St. Regis non-alcoholic chardonnay wine and pop that pitcher into the fridge until company comes!
4. Serving
Once you’re ready to serve the non- alcoholic spicy peach white sangria, add some ice to your glasses and using a large fork to block the lip of the pitcher, poor about halfway full. This prevents the fruit from splashing everywhere, then you can scoop out the fruit and place on top of the liquid.
Top up the glass with chilled St. Regis sparkling Brut and enjoy!
This is the tastiest treat of summer. It’s sweet, with a hint of heat, melding together the best things about sangria but without the alcohol.
