Soberlicious New Alcohol-free Marketplace for Canada
/First to Canadian market with Kentucky 74 Spiritless and premium NoughtyAF sparkling wine.
The alcohol-free marketplace in Canada is expanding yet again with the recent launch of Soberlicious.ca, spearheaded by founder David Hill who brings to the project both his love of drinks and his incredible experience as a third-generation hotelier, restaurateur and wine importer. Hailing from the UK, Hill has owned hotels and gastro pubs in London and beyond and is a consummate entrepreneur ready to take on the challenges of the alcohol-free industry.
“I saw there was a massive gap in the Canadian market when it came to alcohol-free beer, wine and spirits. I started out thinking this was going to be a storefront, but quickly saw the benefit of building an online marketplace to make these products more accessible,” said Hill.
Although there are already quite a few competitors for the Soberlicious.ca market, Hill’s knowledge of the trades and a life-time focused on quality food and drink is already benefiting him greatly. A niche area of growth in this market is alcohol-free wine, so Hill used his many decades of wine tasting to create a 10-point scale for grading what he’s sampling for the store. It will be no surprise that he gives grocery store alcohol-free wine a 2/10.
Soberlicious.ca has quite a few products on their site that are already widely available in Canada, but Hill says that was just for launch to get the site up and running.
“We’re working on bringing in a variety of wines and beers that most likely won’t be available anywhere else in Canada,” Hill explained. “The products we will have within the next few months will be greatly expanded, particularly the wine.”
A big win for Hill is bringing in Noughty AF, the top rated sparkling wine in Australia and already beloved around the world. Pre-orders are available here, and Some Good Clean Fun highly recommends getting your own order in now before they’re all gone.
Kentucky 74 Spiritless has been making waves across the U.S. as a great AF bourbon, and Hill has also secured the import of that product with pre-orders available now. In the coming months, look out for products from the Free Spirit brand which includes an alcohol-free tequila, bourbon and gin. According to The Sober Barkeep, the Free Spirit AF bourbon is good enough to sip neat, which is a first for most zero-proof spirits.
In tandem to building his online sales and revenue, Hill is working directly with the trades to build a restaurant and hospitality program.
“I’m starting the conversation with golf courses and local restaurants, with the goal of building out that side of the business and again, making all these wonderful products a lot more accessible to the public,” he explained.
